​Savannah River Remediation (SRR) is seeking a Senior Industrial Hygienist II or III to be based in our Aiken, SC location on the Savannah River Site (SRS).

The Senior Industrial Hygienist II or III recognizes, evaluates, eliminates and controls occupational and environmental factors or stresses arising from the workplace or facility that may cause sickness, impaired health or well-being, or significant discomfort and inefficiency among workers or citizens of the community.

  • Incorporates conventional and advanced IH practices for the company, assigned facility, or multiple programmatic area(s)
  • Applies IH activities such as integrating or complying with complicated technical requirements or application of new or special materials or processes.  Provides IH consultation for challenging coordination or oversight requirements requiring problem solving and programmatic planning where only general objectives are given
  • Educates employees and management on practices, precautions, and procedures
  • Provides comprehensive IH support to the facilities such as monitoring programs, procedures, Assisted Hazards Analysis (AHA) and work package reviews
  • Performs advanced predictive assessments of work exposures.  Designs and conducts comprehensive exposure monitoring strategies for complex to highly complex issues
  • Takes substantive role or assists management in compliance with technical and regulatory requirements
  • Provides briefings on hazardous chemicals and performs on-the-job and job performance measurement (OJT/JPM) training
  • Communicates results and objectives both verbally and in written form to customers, colleagues, and management
  • Produces documents, reports, papers, articles, or presentations as necessary
  • Serves as subject matter expert for advanced IH disciplines as required by 10 CFR 851, OSHA, ACGIH, EPA and state programs
  • Enhances expertise through participation in technical societies.  Keeps abreast of industry best practices and changes to the profession
  • Demonstrates commitment to quality concepts by active participation and successful implementation of department initiatives
  • Other duties as assigned

Minimum Qualifications

To qualify for hire as a Senior Industrial Hygienist II:

  • Master’s degree or higher in Industrial Hygiene, Public Health, Engineering, Chemistry, Biology, or related physical or biological science and 1+ year of professional IH experience
    • OR
  • Bachelor’s degree in a technical discipline such as Industrial Hygiene, Engineering, Chemistry, Biology, or related physical or biological science and 4+ years related experience
    • OR
  • Bachelor’s degree in a non-technical discipline and 5+ years relevant experience
To qualify for hire as a Senior Industrial Hygienist III:
  • Master’s degree or higher in Industrial Hygiene, Public Health, Engineering, Chemistry, Biology, or related physical or biological science and 3+ year of professional IH experience
    • OR
  • Bachelor’s degree in a technical discipline such as Industrial Hygiene, Engineering, Chemistry, Biology, or related physical or biological science and 6+ years related experience
    • OR
  • Bachelor’s degree in a non-technical discipline and 7+ years relevant experience

Preferred Qualifications

  • Degree from ABET accredited institution for industrial hygiene
  • Certified Industrial Hygienist (CIH), Safety Trained Supervisor (STS) certified or Certified Safety Professional (CSP)
  • Understands and applies advanced IH theories and concepts; working knowledge of related disciplines
  • Proficiency in Respiratory Protection Program requirements for all devices employed within the DOE Complex
  • Familiarity with infrastructure, roles and responsibilities as IH representative integrated into facility operations
  • Radiological Worker trained
